WARNING: DEATH AND LIFE ARE IN THE POWER OF THE TONGUE

At times, it is well-mannered to be quiet but it hurts to be silent at your weakest. It’s gentle to let it pass but it enslaves to hideously grip your pen and let not the ink fall in drops.

The tongue, according to the bible, is a small part of the body that can make a great forest set on fire by a small spark. The tongue is also a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It can corrupt, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and itself set on fire by hell. The tongue is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

One Sunday morning I have received, like a worse for wear disciplinary and a warning electronic message from our company’s HR. I never would have thought being in receipt of. Thinking either in an egotistic and a self-seeking means sidestepping shame. Being a first time receiver such as this, it didn’t steer clear me of disgrace and embarrassment. All I could recall is there I was trying my best to adhere rules and regulations. Boy, what a humiliation this could have led.

So I work from Sunday-Thursday, 8:30 A.M. until 6:30 P.M. but I usually reach office around 6:40 A.M. That Sunday morning, it all happened at a very least expected way, me and my colleague had a heated and fiery argument until I burst into tears caused by an overwhelming anger and it drains my brain to seek the rightful words to throw back.

Warning: Thoughts and words create your reality.

If we are supposed to pick words to say and to choose to slow to speak, we find ourselves unprepared for what happens next especially when you’re on top of your emotional attack.

Around 8:30 A.M. that day, he arrived our office a little jumpy and immediately asked what time I was in. I answered him “same time” and all I ever heard after was “what a shame on you”. Like… what?????!!! I was deafened for seconds in all fairness.

Warning: Be slow to speak.

I answered back in a sudden loud cry… unfortunately. Little did I expect anything. My manners had turned to be very displeasing and his behavior has ripen rudely.

See, being a Christian doesn’t mean you’re living in perfection. It doesn’t mean you’re exempted from temptation. I got tempted to respond an outburst of anger out from his shocking temper.

Though, being attacked emotionally doesn’t excuse us from compromising our faith. We are humans, we do mistakes, we struggle and we will never reach the summit of a sinless life. We repent and we get back to what is right. That’s why I rejoice for God’s grace is always sufficient for me. I reminded myself not to be taken by guilt and get caught in the pulpit. Jesus, who knew no sin died for my sin. It’s all by His grace that I can still be acceptable in the thick of my unreasonable attitude.

Ptr. Joseph Prince taught me to utter, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus” in times of shortfalls. As he said, you cannot be under grace and not be holy like you’re underwater and not be wet.

Warning: Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

If the tongue can spring poison, it can also give life.

There is ALWAYS forgiveness. There is. The world may whisper you to forgive but never forget. But according to my bible, it is a command to forgive one another so that you will find your fellowship with God not being hindered and you’ll not reap bitterness and loss the reward. As you forgive others, so also must you forgive yourself. And when you have that forgiving spirit, it is now your choice to forget.

I heard the phone keeps on ringing around 7:30 A.M. that day but I chose not to pick it because I was having my quiet time with the Lord. Besides it was not our office time yet. This started it all. He got angry and so was I without us knowing what his reason was and so was mine.

The words we speak have the power to build or destroy, heal or wound, to bless or to curse. If we do not ask God to guide us in this area, we may speak death to what He has given life into. Let’s hum God’s words and wisdom and let the healing bloom because the power of our tongue doesn’t just affect other’s life and death, it affects ours too. We better own that the word we speak shows the God we serve.

Ephesians 4:29

29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Oh by the way, we restored a friendly relation between.
